Desaparecidos - Read Music/Speak Spanish

I was directed to this album by a friend, and I've really, really been enjoying it. Although its the product of acoustic wonder-child Conor Oberst, this album wears it's post-hardcore influences on it's sleeve. While one would expect any album by Mr. Oberst to contain a dozen or so lovelorn songs of failed romances and treacherous wenches, "Read Music/Speak Spanish" sets it's sights directly on consumerist culture and the evils of American capitalism. Conor's voice is jagged and coarse, and he attacks each of the album's nine tracks (Highlights being "Man and Wife, The Former (Financial Planning)", "Mañana" and "Hole in One") with a relentless intensity only found sporadically on his Bright Eyes albums. It's an interesting, emotional, and absolutely blood-pumping listen, and I highly recommend it.

TRACKS:

1. Man and Wife, The Former (Financial Planning)

2. Mañana
3. Greater Omaha
4. Man and Wife, The Latter (Damaged Goods)
5. Mall of America
6. The Happiest Place on Earth
7. Survival of the Fittest/It's a Jungle Out There
8. $$$$
9. Hole in One
